Impact of Global Warming on Biodiversity- Remedies and Reasons
Global warming has profound impacts on biodiversity across the planet. In many ways global warming is harming biodiversity. These include the destruction of habitats due to rising sea levels, melting ice, altered rainfall, and ocean warming. Additionally, many species are facing extinction because they can't adapt quickly enough to these changes, struggle to find new suitable environments, diseases, and invasive species. Finally, entire ecosystems are being disrupted as species move, the timing of natural events changes, and disturbances like wildfires become more frequent. Climate change and biodiversity loss are part of an interlinked triple planetary crisis the world is facing today. Steady increase in the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) due to human activities has been the primary driver for climate change. The principal mitigation measures against climate change are obvious; they include significant reduction in greenhouse gas emission, prevention of deforestation and increase in the forest cover. To reduce greenhouse gas emission, use of coal and fossil fuels needs to be reduced markedly. As climate change is a global challenge, local solutions confined to one or a few countries do not work; we need global efforts for human welfare.
