Brain and Cognitive Impairments: Lessons from the Buddhajaksa Virtuous Community
This article examines “Brain and Cognitive Impairments” through field-based insights from the Buddhajaksa Virtuous Community. It outlines the fundamental structures of the human brain and relates them to key conditions Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, Psychopathy and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) while further expanding on the roles of the Cerebellum, Hippocampus and Brain Sex in shaping learning, memory, emotions and social identity. Findings highlight that both individuals with impairments and those with natural differences can flourish when nurtured in environments of compassion, safety and non-coercion. The community thus functions as a “Socially Shared Brain,” enabling balance between the prefrontal cortex and amygdala, which underpins morality and leadership. Supporting the brain therefore extends beyond medical intervention; it requires designing mindful and compassionate communities that truly embrace and empower human diversity.
