Report on the determinants of innovation uptake and dissemination, impact on farmers' well-being, and recommendations for innovation dissemination (D5.22)
This document presents the results of the Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) implemented in the framework of T5.9 of FoodLAND in the Food Hubs of Meknes (Morocco), Mvomero (Tanzania), and Kajjansi-Masaka (Uganda), deriving implications and recommendations for innovation dissemination. The FoodLAND RCTs had two interrelated goals: (1) assess the impact of different dissemination strategies (information-centred or financial incentives) on innovation uptake by smallholder farmers, and (2) assess the impact of the innovations on farm performance and household wellbeing. Therefore, the report is constituted of two main parts: the analysis of adoption rates at different points along the process; the assessment of whether the innovations made a difference for adopters in terms of farm performance and household wellbeing (using a difference-in-differences approach). This is followed by concise policy recommendations.
