Digital Continuity across System Models and Domain-Specific Simulations
Achieving digital continuity along the development process from early development phases until detailed design is desirable for engineers due to the desired capabilities to conformity proofs, cross-discipline knowledge transfer or compatible design artifacts. On the other hand it is often recognized as a manual, administrative, burden. A particular challenge is the step from early design stages often supported by system models to the detailed design artifacts such as simulation up to the system testing. Continuity is required down to the level of parameters accessing reliable information even within design artifacts and across tools. Therefore, this contribution proposes to bridge conceptual and detailed design artifacts by integrating SysML originated information into the tool agnostic SSP (System Structure and Parametrization) standard. A technical proof of the solution is executed on the example of a safe door opening system, preventing cyclists from dooring-accidents. Furthermore, an industry and researcher expert group evaluates the relevance of the additional information as well as the applicability of the proposed approach. The cross-discipline and tool-agnostic approach enables digital continuity by connecting system requirements, functions, parameters, the simulation setup as well as decision-making during the simulation process.
