Formulation and Characterization of a Nanoemulgel Loaded with Curcuma longa and Salicylic Acid for the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris
ABSTRACT:Topical treatments are often necessary for the treatment of acne vulgaris, a prevalent skindisorder. The permeability and efficacy of lipophilic active drugs are enhanced bynanoemulsion-based delivery methods. To improve the anti-acne efficacy, this researchdevelops and tests a nanoemulgel with curcumin (curcumin) and salicylic acid. Theingredients for the nanoemulsion were oleic acid, Tween 80, and ethanol, the surfactant andco-surfactant. By adding Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent, the optimized nanoemulsion wastransformed into a nanoemulgel. The formulations were evaluated for stability, in vitro drugrelease, viscosity, pH, droplet size, and zeta potential. To determine how effective it was, morphological analysis and skin penetration examinations were carried out. The improvednanoemulgel exhibited enhanced rheological properties, a zeta potential that guaranteedcolloidal stability, and a droplet size less than 200 nm. When compared to standard gels, invitro testing revealed improved medication release. There was an improvement in flux andpermeation, according to the skin permeation data. There was no notable reddening orinflammation of the skin. The therapeutic potential was validated by the antibacterial andanti-inflammatory effects. By enhancing skin penetration, stability, and controlled release ofsalicylic acid and Curcuma longa, the created nanoemulgel offers a potential and efficienttopical delivery strategy for treating acne.
