Dravidian Movement and Tamil Development
The Tamil language is very ancient, cultured and rich in literature, although it has been stuck in the midst of troubles and ruins in various times, it is worth thinking that it has survived without losing its characteristics. The prosperity of a language is not dependent on the number of speakers. Development should be calculated with the characteristics of its usefulness according to the time and according to the needs of the people. If we look at the history of Tamil in general and better, it can be said that its forms and concepts have been flexibly based on objectives from time to time. The poets and singers who expressed their feelings in internal and external songs during the Sangam period changed their paths in the later period, in the Kaapiya period and the medieval period. It was in modern times that literature became the medium of the people. In this case, there was a tendency to bring out the realities of people's life in literature. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Dravidian movement was the primary reason for such a renaissance. It is history that the Dravidian movement in the twentieth century laid the foundation for a great change of thought in Tamil Nadu. Tamils should not forget that the Dravidian movement was the first movement to promote social justice, dignity, women's equality, class rights, democratic consciousness and the importance of education. The Tamil work of this movement helps a lot to understand the social thought of Tamil people through social, ethnic and historical way. The Dravidian movement is the primary cause of the awakening in the development of Tamil literature in this century. The Dravidian movement brought significant changes in Tamil literature. New literary ideas such as stage Tamil, journalistic Tamil, screen Tamil, scientific Tamil, and Jakka Tamil were born.
