Millet Production in Rajasthan with special reference to Agricultural Credit towards Female Landholding

Abstract: In Rajasthan, millets have always been a major part of its traditional diet and the state produces 'bajra (Pearl millet-Pennisetum glaucum)' more than any other state in India. This paper examines the challenges and opportunities faced by female landholding farmers in a specific region and explores sustainable Agri practices that can enhance millet production along with the female farmer's livelihood. Various factors such as including access to credit and gender disparities in landownership could impact millet cultivation. Through a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis through bank records and qualitative using secondary data, this research assesses the relationship between agricultural credit and millet production, with a specific emphasis on its distribution among female landholders. The expected findings reveal the importance of customized credit mechanisms to support female farmers through land holdings in millet production. Factors such as land tenure, social customs, dominating male ownership, and financial literacy significantly influence women's ability to get the financial credit for agricultural activities. Moreover, the study identifies the need for targeted intermediation to enhance women's involvement in making proper decision related to agricultural credit allocation and farm management. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of the intersectionality between millet production, agricultural credit, and gender dynamics in Rajasthan's farming communities. This article contributes to the growing discourse on gender-responsive approaches to agricultural development and offers insights for policy interventions aimed at promoting women’s land ownership and fostering inclusive rural development strategies. Keywords: Millets, Female Farmer, Banking Credit, and Livelihood
