The Phallic Mother of the Liberal College: On Power, Disgust, and Academic Fetishism in the Grant-Funded Eastern European Institutions
This article dissects the cultural dynamics and bureaucratic sadomasochism of grant-funded liberal academia in Eastern Europe. It focuses on the paradox of feminist liberal authority, the punitive pedagogies of so-called “progressive” faculty, and the biopolitical subjection of students through emotional, temporal, and epistemological manipulation. Grounded in Foucauldian power analysis, feminist psychoanalysis, and critical theory, the text identifies the “Phallic Mother” figure — an academic matriarch of passive-aggressive discipline — as the perverse sovereign of liberal institutions. Irony serves here not only as a rhetorical strategy but also as a methodological necessity in approaching an academic world that masquerades as democratic while operating through covert authoritarianism.
