Landuse and Landcover transformation using Multi-temporal Satellite Images: A Study of Solapur City

Abstract: Land is the very crucial natural resource on which all man’s activities are based. The increasing population force and the activities of human being are mounting the demand on the restricted ground, water system happen in a restricted manner in enough places to have a vital reason. People have constantly reshaped the earth. Now a day, it is understand that this is significant to identify how land cover has altered over period, in order to create evaluation of the changes one could be expecting in the near future and the result of these changes will have on peoples’ life. It is essential to observe and measure land use changes over space and time for sustainability, there is call for coordinator application of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) for the development of land use planning in city. The present study generates land use landcover transformation map of Solapur city and surrounding 15 km area and it aims to reveal the usefulness of integrating existing maps with the satellite data and related geographic information to remove urban land alteration uniqueness. This research presents a visual portrayal of growth and trends of transformation and conveys how the development of current urbanization results in changes to the landscape. The study disclosed that there has been a huge land use land cover change, transformations in Solapur city and surrounding 15 km area during the study period of 30 years (1992-2022). It provides the total numbers of land use and land cover classes identified are 4 viz. builtup land, wasteland, waterbody, and agricultural land.
