Teachers Empowering Teachers: Finding and Reusing Online Educational Resources

Overview This workshop was held on March 4, 2025 at the Library of Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands as part of Open Education Week. There are three PDF files included: Slides from the workshop Slides from Claudiu Forgaci Handout about Copyright and Reusing material from the TU Delft Library Claudiu Forgaci's slides are included in this Zenodo record with permission; this is not included in the CC BY license here, but a more detailed overview of his project will be documented on Zenodo as well in the near future. The Handout from the TU Delft Library is shared under a CC BY License (reused, like the topic of the workshop!) Share: Your own experiences, challenges, and successes. Collaborate: Work with peers to identify solutions and collectively improve OER practices. This session is perfect for teachers looking to explore new resources, overcome challenges in their teaching, and contribute to a growing Open Education community. Follow-Up of Workshop Dear Registered Participants from Tuesday’s OER Workshop, We hope you enjoyed the workshop (and can look through the materials, for those that could not join). Marcell and I What struck us during the activities was that many of us have heard of OER, and a few more shared OER, but far fewer have actually reused and remixed. It seems like it was also the case that many of you were using the OER platforms (or at least OER Commons) for the first time. For those that found material, it seemed to be in the class of “free to reuse (e.g., CC BY), but the source material was not necessarily available for direct modification.” With this email, we have two purposes: 1) to share the slides and a few other reference materials with you, and 2) invite you to provide us with some feedback by replying to this mail (short or long, we’d love to hear your thoughts!). To help inspire any reactions you may have, we share a few propositions below---what do you think? Reuse, remix, revise is not as common as we like to think--- Do you share this experience? Teachers and support staff should communicate with each other more often to help everyone understand what tools are available and use them effectively --- What kind of support would you like to receive to increase reuse, remix and revising of existing OER? Workshops about OER like this one would be productive to have in the future --- Is there anything in specific that you would like to learn more about? Materials can be found here: doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14964996 We will wait until Friday, March 15 to hear your response, then try to summarize it. We look forward to keeping the discussion going in future meetings, gatherings and workshops. Note in addition: There is a new initiative that seeks to bring together communities at TU Delft related to open education (without limiting their individual identity and roles). It is called the Open Education Community and you can find out more here: edu.nl/3xupc Roeland Loggen (Library Education Services) is currently leading an initiative called “OpenCourseWare/OER” to identify a single OER platform for TU Delft (currently in the phase of identifying requirements). If you would like to provide any input or suggestions, feel free to get in touch with him at R.P.Loggen<at>tudelft.nl. Kind regards, Robert and Marcell
