THE SYMBOLISM OF A. AKHMATOVA'S POETRY IN THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING RECEPTION
Abstract In her work, A.Akhmatova has always relied on the folk poetic tradition. This creates certain difficulties in translating her lyrics into the language of another national culture and mentality. The symbolism of Russian folklore is very specific, and it is difficult to translate it into the context of a foreign language perception of nature, man and the surrounding reality. In the Russian folklore poetic culture, intonation differences provided a synthesis of playful, fervently joking intonation and deep lyricism of the text. There is no such analogue in English poetry, as a result of which an organic combination of the playful carnival character of the Russian text with its deep and almost confessional lyricism turned out to be impossible for an English-speaking translator. The individual manner of the author and the poetic world he creates largely determine his preferences in the field of choosing the genre nature of a poetic text. In the work of a translator, it is this area of perception of the author of the original work that is particularly problematic. The difference in mentalities and linguistic worldviews, which are very often closely related to the oral historical tradition, are the reason for such difficulties and semantic gaps in the translated text.
