Invited Speaker at Nanoscale Science and Engineering for Agriculture and Food Systems Gordon Research Conference

The Gordon Research Conferences provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of frontier research in the biological, chemical, physical and engineering sciences and their interfaces. The Nanoscale Science and Engineering for Agriculture and Food Systems GRC is a prestigious international conference focuses on advancing scientific frontiers through the presentation of cutting-edge and pre-published research. It emphasizes discussion and informal interactions among scientists at all career stages. The five-day conference, held in a remote location to foster camaraderie and features a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from global institutions. It includes premier talks, poster sessions, afternoon free time, and communal meals to enhance networking opportunities. Each conference is limited to 200 participants and I am honored to be invited to this prestigious event. The 2024 conference, the fourth in the series, highlighted the impact of nanoscience and technology on sustainable food production. It brought together a global community of scientists from academia, industry, government, and NGOs to discuss the latest research. The program covered nanotechnology advancements in agricultural and applied sciences, food science and engineering, plant and soil science, animal science, human health and disease, and the safe deployment of nanotechnology, considering public perception and policy. I had the pleasure of participating in this conference as invited speaker by presenting our new project, Phoenix-OoC, as part of a broader oral presentation, entitled “Paper-Based Electrochemical (Bio)sensors for Reliable and Sustainable Analytical Tools in Agrifood Sector”, that underling the paper advantages like the capillary-driven flowing pathways that eliminate the need for external pumps, the ability to store reagents for reagent-free analytical tools, and the capability to operate without sample treatment such as filtration and dilution. Furthermore, paper's flexibility and foldability facilitate the creation of origami configurations without additional devices. It also serves as a reactor for synthesizing nanomaterials through sustainable methods, detects target analytes in various forms (solution, aerosol, and solid) without a sampling system, and supports the design of hybrid systems that simplify analysis, overcoming limitations associated with polyester-based printed electrochemical biosensors, with several applications in agrifood sector.
