A Study on the APMC Challenges & Solutions

Abstract Summary Agriculture is essential for the country's economic growth. Agriculture is completely different from trade and industry. It covers many processes and activities that allow raw materials and food to be delivered from the farm to the final consumer. Therefore, the sector needs to create a good profit margin in order to provide farmers with a reasonable return for their labor. Unfortunately, due to the lack of knowledge and skills of poor farmers, all profits in this process are transferred to the intermediaries. Therefore, the government has enacted three important agricultural laws that allow farmers to sell their produce without any restrictions or licenses, thus ensuring security of agricultural produce. Therefore, farmers are able to get better prices during times of increased competition. Deregulation alone will not be enough to attract more buyers. The House of Representatives (2018-19) stated that easy access to information, transparency and robust market operations for farmers and buyers are essential to ensure fair trade. The APMC sector and government agencies are unable to do this for most farmers. In this way, constructing a suitable building for small businesses to trade agricultural produce can be a good option. In this article, we focus on the problems faced by farmers and the benefits that the new law can bring. Apart from this, we will also discuss some good tips to solve the current problems faced by Indian farmers in marketing agricultural produce.
