COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF EQUIVALENCE AND ADEQUACY IN TRANSLATION
This article analyzes the theoretical foundations of the concepts of equivalence and adequacy in the translation process. Equivalence aims to ensure linguistic conformity in translation, whereas adequacy seeks to preserve the meaning, style, and communicative impact of the text. The advantages and limitations of both approaches are examined based on the views of various scholars. The study explores the perspectives of translation theorists such as Komissarov, Catford, Nida, and Breus, discussing the challenge of finding an optimal balance between equivalence and adequacy in translation.
