Fostering Critical Reading Skills in Yemeni Classrooms: Strategies for Effective Pedagogy

Abstract: The present research explores various approaches for teaching critical reading in Yemeni classrooms, emphasizing the essential role that critical reading plays in fostering autonomous thinking and developing critical analysis skills. By enhancing students’ ability to engage deeply with texts, critical reading contributes to more reflective and independent thought processes. This paper outlines a comprehensive framework, drawing from established pedagogical theories as well as culturally sensitive methods, to address the unique challenges faced by Yemeni students. The proposed approach is tailored to the specific social, cultural, and educational context of Yemen, ensuring that students not only improve their critical reading skills but also become more globally competent learners. The study further highlights the necessity of aligning educational strategies with Yemen’s cultural and societal particularities in order to create a more inclusive and effective learning environment that prepares students for both local and global challenges
