Comparative Analysis of Quantum Tunneling Effects on Field Emission in Outer and Inner Walls of Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes
The field emission properties of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have garnered significant attention due to their potential applications in nanotechnology, particularly in the development of high-performance electron emitters. This study presents a comparative analysis of the quantum tunneling effects on the field emission performance of the outer and inner walls of MWCNTs. By employing theoretical models and computational simulations, we explore how variations in quantum tunneling phenomena between the distinct layers of MWCNTs influence their field emission characteristics. Our results indicate that the outer walls exhibit a more pronounced field emission current due to the reduced potential barrier and enhanced tunneling probability compared to the inner walls. This difference is attributed to the distinct electronic properties and spatial confinement effects associated with the various layers. The findings provide crucial insights into optimizing MWCNT-based devices, suggesting that careful consideration of the specific wall structure is essential for enhancing field emission performance. This research contributes to the broader understanding of quantum tunneling in nanoscale systems and its implications for the design of advanced nanomaterials.
