«Dramatic studies» by A.S. Pushkin in light of objectives of poetonymography
Occasional experiments in lexicography of proper names used in dramatic works do not fully reflect the specifics of functioning of poetonyms in them, and do not reveal the essential characteristics of means of nominating characters. In the vast majority of cases, the techniques and methods applied in the analysis of different genres of belles-lettres style, are extrapolated to the study of the poetics of proper names functioning in drama. As a result, poetonymologists fail to focus on specific features, determined by the texts dialogical nature and by a limited range of means of expressing the author’s presence. The development of lexicography in literary and onomastic studies has increased the awareness of the need to build up a theory of poetonymography, which brings into the open a number of previously ignored features of poetonyms used in drama, and has given an impetus to new lexicographic decisions. The tragedy "Boris Godunov", "Little Tragedies", and "Dramatic studies" by A.S. Pushkin are of a particular interest for the theory and practice of poetonymography not only because they are the first examples of a new drama in the Russian literature, but also because of the "technical" features of the texts.
