Neomegatropis Chen, Wang & Zhang, 2024, gen. nov.
Neomegatropis gen. nov. Type species: Neomegatropis rubrimacula sp. nov. by monotypy. Here designated. Diagnosis. Head extending extremely forward, nearly oblong in profile view, apical margin smooth. Frons extremely narrow, lateral carinae distinctly developed with sensory pits and virtually contiguous almost throughout, except extreme apex before frontoclypeal suture slightly separated.Antennae uniramous, without appendage.Tegmen with basal cell elongate and broad, has sensory pits on vein CA; vein ScP+R and MP beginning at almost same point from upper end of basal cell; MP with 4 terminalis, MP 4 fused with MP 3 near apical part to form a common stem and then extending to posterior margin; cell 5 (= procubital cell) elongate and closed; clavus open, long and particularly narrow with apical portion, extending beyond middle of tegmina. Metatibiotarsal formula: 6-4-4. Description. Head including eyes narrower than pronotum (Figs 1, 5), smoothly oblong in profile view (Figs 3, 7). Vertex long, triangular, wide basally and narrow apically, extending extremely forward, far beyond anterior margin of eyes; lateral margins distinctly elevated with many sensory pits and shallowly concave in middle from side view, disc deeply depressed, without median carina in dorsal view (Figs 1, 5). Frons extremely narrow, lateral carinae distinctly developed and virtually contiguous almost throughout except extreme apex before frontoclypeal suture slightly separated. Clypeus nearly triangular, highly developed, rather tumid in middle area, significantly wider than frons at apex, lateral marginal carinae elevated, median carina thick. Rostrum somewhat short and thick, just over mesocoxae (Figs 2, 6). Eyes oval. Ocelli absent. Antennae uniramous and flattened laterally, expanding distally, apical margin asymmetrically excavated, more than half of length of vertex; without subantennal processes (Figs 3, 7). Pronotum extremely short, anterior margin angularly convex, posterior margin still more concave angularly, median carina present and a carina on each side between eye and tegula. Mesonotum large and convex, disc elevated at anterior part but depressed at posterior part, median carina feeble, lateral carinae obsolete except for two flange-like vertical eminences in middle. Tegulae relatively large (Figs 1, 5). Tegmina narrow and long. Sensory pits presented on vein CA (Figs 4, 8). Basal cell elongate and broad. Vein ScP+R and MP beginning at almost same point from upper end of basal cell, common stem ScP+R+MP obviously shorter than basal cell length; ScP+R forked distinctly distad of CuA forking. RA slightly sinuate behind, separating from ScP and single; RP forked close to apex, at level with subapical line, with two terminals; a cross vein ir present between RA and RP at distal 1/5 of tegmina. MP branched at apical third of tegmen, at level of veinlet m-cu distad of ScP+R or basad of ScP+RA fork, MP 4 fused with MP 3 near apical part to form a common stem and then extending to posterior margin, with 4 terminals. Veinlet r-m present, veinlets ir and im formed into subapical line. CuA forking near basal third of tegmina, distinctly basad of ScP+R, then CuA 1 and CuA 2 fusing again near distal third of tegmina, cell 5 (= procubital cell) elongate and closed; common stem CuA 1+2 reaching posterior margin; veinlet icu distinctly oblique. Clavus open, long and particularly narrow with apical portion, extending beyond middle of tegmina. Pcu fused with A 1 in middle of clavus; common claval stem Pcu+A 1 connected to cross vein icu at calval apex (Fig. 22). Hind wings without stridulatory plate on jugal margin, shorter than tegmina (Fig. 9). Metatibiotarsal formula: 6-4-4 (Figs 12, 13). Male terminalia: Anal tube broad and long, nearly trapezoidal, curved upward in a right angle near apical 1/3, apical margin of anal tube linguiform and curved towards cephalad (Fig. 23). Pygofer in profile view extremely narrow on dorsum and markedly broad at venter, with ventral apical margin truncate in ventral view (Fig. 24). Gonostylus in lateral view nearly oblong, with a slender long and transverse ridge at middle of inside surface; dorsal margin slightly conical, protruding near apex and ventral margin, slightly protruding near middle, apical margin rounded (Fig. 25). Aedeagus with flagellum divided into dorsal and ventral lobes, of which dorsal lobe has long conical processes, while ventral one has a parallelogram lamellar process, curved upward on both lateral sides and concave into a longitudinal dorsal groove in middle, with a small U-shaped notch at middle of apical margin and three small spinules on each side of notch, dorsoapical angle rounded (Fig. 26). Female terminalia: Of fulgoroid type. Anal tube a rectangular frame in dorsal view, apical margin curved upwards and towards head. Anal column very short, 1/6 as long as anal tube, located about half of near apical part of anal tube, apex curved upward like apical margin of anal tube. Anal apodeme strongly developed. Hind margin of sternite VII strongly produced caudad medially (Fig. 11) Etymology. The generic name “ Neomegatropis ” refers to the close resemblance to Megatropis. The genus is feminine in gender. Distribution. China (Hainan). Remarks. This new genus differs from all known genera in the tribe Nicertini by vein MP 4 completely fused with MP 3 near the apical part forming a common stem MP 3+4 extending to posterior margin of tegmina, while others have MP 4 and MP 3 extending to posterior margin of tegmina respectively. This new genus closely resembles Megatropis Muir and Nicerta Walker, but can be separated from them by the following characters: the head long, about 1.5 times longer in middle than the length of pronotum combined with mesonotum, while both latter genera have head shorter than pronotum combined with mesonotum (Muir, 1913, 1918, 1922; Fennah, 1952; Yang & Wu, 1994).
