Case study of Disaster Management Practices from Italy

The study evaluates the ability of Italian disaster management strategies to improve Mauritius'resistance against disasters. The research implements both quantitative and qualitative methodsto examine Italian disaster management systems' performance and identify their suitability forMauritius. The study adopts multiple research methods including statistical evaluation alongsidecase study assessments and stakeholder interview results for recognizing practical disastermanagement solutions along with their implementation issues. The research shows that Mauritian disaster preparedness will benefit substantially from applyingItalian methods in early hazard detection and community outreach while enhancing institutionalprotocols. The modified Italian protocols would enhance emergency response times by 42% andgenerate better resilience scores by 67% based on statistical evidence. The study identifies criticalsuccess factors in Italy's disaster management system and proposes detailed recommendations fortheir adaptation to Mauritius's unique geographical, social, and economic context. The implementation strategy involves creating an Emergency Operations Center centralized inone location while developing both warning system components along with technical trainingprograms for employees. A MUR 1.2 billion strategic investment in proposed improvements willproduce estimated MUR 4.5 billion worth of savings during five years by minimizing disasterimpacts and optimizing response capabilities. The research demonstrates that Italian disastermanagement practices need proper integration with community networks together with culturalpractices but also need to overcome resource limitations and institutional obstacles. The research adds to developing disaster resilience science for small island developing states whilegiving practical recommendations to both policy makers and disaster management practitioners. The research findings present important practical knowledge about disaster resiliencemanagement that enables other countries to develop their disaster response capabilities. Keywords: Disaster Management, Local Resilience, Knowledge Transfer, Small IslandDeveloping States, International Cooperation, Early Warning Systems, CommunityEngagement, Institutional Capacity Building
