THE INFLUENCE OF STANDARDIZED TESTING ON COMPENSATORY COMPETENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Standardized testing is a fundamental component of contemporary education systems, especially at the primary level. While its primary goal is to measure students’ abilities in a consistent manner, its effects on compensatory competence—the capacity to adapt, learn, and apply alternative strategies when faced with challenges—are increasingly questioned. This article explores the implications of standardized assessments on compensatory competence among primary school students. Drawing upon scholarly literature and research, it argues that rigid assessment methods may inhibit creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability. Recommendations are provided to create more balanced evaluation systems that foster compensatory skills in young learners.
