Ethical Prompt Engineering: Addressing Bias, Transparency, and Fairness in AI-Generated Content
The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4, LLaMA, and Claude has revolutionized AI- driven content generation, yet concerns surrounding fairness, transparency, and ethical accountability persist. Prompt engineering has emerged as a crucial intervention for guiding AI-generated responses; however, the design of these prompts can inadvertently amplify biases, propagate misinformation, and undermine interpretability. This paper critically examines the interplay between prompt formulation and AI ethics, investigating how structured input mechanisms influence bias mitigation and equitable content generation. We present a systematic review of bias detection methodologies, outline state-of-the-art ethical mitigation strategies, and introduce a structured framework for explainable and responsible prompt design. By bridging insights from natural language processing (NLP), human-computer interaction (HCI), and AI governance, this work aims to establish best practices for ensuring fair, transparent, and accountable AI-generated outputs. Our findings provide actionable recommendations for designing bias-aware prompt strategies, contributing to the broader discourse on responsible AI deployment in critical decision- making applications.
