Quando sarà ascoltata la loro voce? Spazi, genere e sfruttamento in «Tea rooms» di Luisa Carnés

This article examines some interesting aspects of Tea rooms. Mujeres obreras by Luisa Carnés. Resuming the term “novela reportaje”, associated with the work in the first edition and then set aside, the focus is on the ways in which the author recounts the intertwining of class and gender oppression. In particular, the analysis observes how, by blending narrative writing with an investigative tone, Carnés precisely describes the working conditions of a group of women employed in a tea room, providing a vivid representation of the double chain of exploitation in which proletarian women are entangled. Through the tools of feminist criticism, specifically through the intersectional lens, attention is drawn to the narrative transposition of a dual dimension of violence, impacting spaces and bodies, and the possibilities of transgression of the norm, embodied in the character of Matilde.
