Free Food for All - Food as Birth Right.
Abstract: Food is one of the prime necessities of a man and is vital for survival of a human being. In today’s era, food is linked with labour and ‘food for labour’ is considered as the socioeconomic arrangement of the society. Looking at the today’s problems in the global society like poverty, unemployment, unequal distribution of money and food, hunger etc. the current food for labour concept doesn’t seems to solve these critical problems. There is solution proposed by great economist, philosopher, thinker from India Dr. R. P. Parnerkar - the concept of "food for all as a birthright" in his treatise “Poornawadi Economics”. This is rooted in the belief that access to sufficient and nutritious food should be considered a fundamental human right, available to everyone from the moment of birth. Entire food production of the world, which can feed everyone, should be given free. Food should not be the wages of labour. This philosophy emphasizes that no individual should go hungry due to social, economic, or political reasons. While this idea has strong ethical and moral foundations, and is need of today’s world to resolve the above-mentioned problems. Philosophy of food could be different for different people but I think its way of life as food is one of the very few things which are important for our life. Human life itself is an economic activity as production and reproduction are both economic activities. As long as the principle of Food in exchange for labour would be part of man’s economics; his concern for food, instead of diminishing, be ever increasing. This is real hostile to man’s interest. This arrangement of society on the foundation of food for labour is an insult to humanity. That is problem statement that economics is considering food in exchange of labour
