The Quantatitative Estimation of total Phenolics & flavonoids from Ipomoea carnea (Jaq) leaves of Convolvulaceae
Abstract: In India, family Convolvulaceae is represented by 20 genera and 158 species occurring chiefly in the southern and western India. Over 60 species of Ipomoea are reported in India distributed and occurs especially in damp places. These species are used in different parts of the world for the treatment of several diseases, such as, diabetes, hypertension, dysentery, constipation, fatigue, arthritis, kidney ailments and inflammations. The most common biologically active constituents from plants of genus Ipomoea are ergoline alkaloids, indolizidine alkaloids, nortropane alkaloids, phenolics compounds, coumarins, norisoprenoids, diterpene, isocoumarin and benzenoids, flavonoids and antocianosides, glycolipids, lignan and triterpenes. Ipomoea carnea Jacq. grows as wild plant in India. It is identified as a useful material for several applications including medicinal purposes. Ipomoea carnea, a wild plant in India, has many potential uses due to its phytochemicals. The present study deals with quantitative analysis of phenolics and flavonoids from carnea leaves.
