THE ROLE OF SELF-ASSESSMENT IN INDEPENDENT STUDY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Independent study has become a crucial strategy for fostering learning autonomy, particularly for middle school students learning foreign languages. This paper introduces a comprehensive and structured framework specifically designed to help these learners develop strong study habits that enhance their language acquisition. The framework emphasises key components such as self-assessment, the setting of clear and attainable goals, and the integration of technology to sustain engagement and improve skills. It also explores the various challenges faced by middle school students when engaging in independent study, such as maintaining motivation and accessing adequate resources. Practical strategies to address these challenges are offered, making the framework a valuable guide for educators, parents, and students. By implementing this framework, learners are empowered to become more independent and efficient in their language learning journeys.
