Tetanus in Goats: Symptoms, Prevention, and Treatment
The neuromuscular disease tetanus, which can strike humans or animals, is communicable and occasionally fatal. Clostridium tetani is a Gram-positive anaerobic spore-forming bacteria. Worldwide distribution and resistance to extinction characterize spores. A spore reservoir is the soil and the stomach of mammals. The pathogenic bacteria (C. tetani) of tetanus produces two different types of toxins: tetanolysin and tetanospasmin. While necrotizing toxins, or tetanolysin, generate favorable conditions, tetanospasmin induces clinical symptoms. Incubation times for tetanus might vary. Via the anaerobic synthesis of specific neurotoxins within the tissue, Clostridium tetani causes toxemia. Around the world, soil contains bacteria that, under certain circumstances, develop into spores. Though tetanus infections can affect any species, horses and lambs are more vulnerable than other
