Steel Framing/Structure as a Solution to Support BIPV Competitiveness

The development of BIPV solutions makes it possible to respond to the energy and environmental challenges of 2050 (IEA roadmap and EU roadmap), while offering solutions adapted to the requirements of construction codes (CPR n° 305/2011). Current definitions aim to maximize energy production from standard solutions, dictated by the module’s dimensions, without integrating, from the design phases, sustainability, safety, and reduction of footprint impacts notions. The SOLARSTYL solution aims to define and validate an innovative BIPV solution that meets these challenges, while offering an advanced aesthetic integration solution, without harming energy production. A global approach combining a specific support solution must and the use of a component widely used in construction, thin rolled steel, may prove to be an approach that makes it possible to respond to these challenges, while aiming for strong competitiveness, based on a controlled carbon footprint and much greater durability to traditional BIPV solutions. This article presents the development methodology of the SOLARSTYL project, which aims to develop a BIPV solution for facade and roof, on a thin steel base with high added value, integrating the manufacturing and experimental validation stages, including the creation a digital tool to optimize the sizing of solutions.
