Towards a Common Strategy for Agri-PV in Europe - the Italian Perspective

This paper has been jointly prepared by the authors, as experts and players of the renewable energy sector and in their quality of members of AIAS (Italian Association for Sustainable Agrivoltaic), as the most relevant association in Italy for the development of a sustainable way of doing agrivoltaics. Indeed, Agri-PV represents nowadays a sustainable alternative to maximize land-use efficiency and successfully meet the energy, environmental and food challenges of the energy transition. To this end, energy-law experts, together with policymakers, researchers, can sensitize the renewable energy industry to realize that the environmental compromise represented by Agri-PV does not entail any disadvantages but rather pursues a synergy between agriculture and photovoltaic sectors to maximize the benefits of both. Associations between professionals and players in the energy, environment and agricultural sectors, in a common effort, can certainly support State Members and EU institutions to define appropriate policy frameworks and a common strategy for Agri-PV as well as to pursue the targets of the European Green Deal (EGD).
