EFFECT OF 8 WEEK STRENGTH TRAINING ON AGILITY, SPEED AND POWER OF DIMA U-17 FOOTBALL PROJECT IN SHANBU CITY, H/G/WALLAGA, OROMIA REGION

ADIVISOR: GIRMA TILAHUN (PHD) The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 week strength training on agility, speed and power of dima u-17 football project in shanbu city, h/g/wallaga, oromia region The total population of the study was twenty six (N=26) of soccer trainers. Since the number of players are very much less, all players are included under the study through implementing census sampling technique. Through randomization method trainees classified in to two groups, an experimental group (N=13) and a control group (N=13). The Experimental group begun the designed strength training and engages in conditional exercise. The total duration of the training was for two month (8 week) and the frequencies of training per week were 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) the duration of the exercises of each session is 35 to 55 minutes. Control groups had made a normal training activities on their own regular training program scheduled. The paired sample t- test used to measure the difference between pre- and post-test results for both experimental group (EG) and control (CG) group, with a significance level of p≤0.05. SPSS software version 20 used to carry out these statistical analyses. Based on the analyzed, data after 8week strength training of IAT, 30m sprint test and broad jump of EG was improved with a significance level of p≤0.05. Therefore the study recommended that coaches should give concentration to strength training in coaching soccer and these training methods are recommended to soccer players for improving selected soccer related fitness performances.<br> Key words: Agility, power, Speed and Strength Training
