Implementation of Spectral Estimation with Wavelet Denoising Techniques for Advanced Indian MST Radar: A comparative Study
The Mesosphere-Stratosphere-Troposphere (MST) Radar, located at Gadanki, is a powerful tool for observing atmospheric phenomena across various altitudes. Recently upgraded to the Advanced Indian MST Radar (AIR) system, this radar significantly enhanced its capabilities. Spectral estimation is carried out to estimate the Doppler frequency, and from the estimated frequencies, the wind velocity components. This paper presents the implementation of various parametric, non-parametric, and semi-parametric spectral estimation techniques for Advanced Indian MST Radar (AIR) system time series raw data obtained from National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL). It carries out a comparative study of performance of various spectral estimation techniques applied to MST Radar. Additionally, the study explores the application of various wavelet-based denoising techniques for preprocessing the data prior to spectral estimation. This preprocessing step is crucial for enhancing the data quality and subsequently improves the spectral estimation performance.
