Correcting the earing profile resulting from misalignments of the blank in the deep drawing of a cylindrical cup
The main objective of this work is to study the effect of the blank misalignment on the measured earing profile from the deep drawing of a cylindrical cup. In this context, the finite element method is used to perform the numerical analysis of the forming process considering different values of orientation misalignment of the blank relative to the tools. The cup height was obtained, in function of the angle to the rolling direction, for materials with different blank thicknesses and orthotropic behaviours. To correct the ear profile for off-centred cups, it is assumed that a deviation in the blank position is identical to the deviation in the cup height. Based on this assumption, a strategy is proposed that involves the calibration of two parameters to minimize the asymmetry of the cup height relative to the symmetry axes. The results show that this simple approach enables an accurate correction of the earing profile, for materials with different orthotropic behaviour and, consequently, distinct off-centred earing profiles.
