A High Efficiency Truncated Square-Shaped Multifunctional Reflective Polarizer for Modern Satcom Applications
This paper presents a linear to linear (LTL) and linear to circular (LTC) polarization converter for potential satellite applications. Multi-functional polarization manipulation characteristics have been achieved due strong anisotropy offered by a diagonally oriented truncated square-shaped structure. It is studied that the amount of truncation is playing a prominent role in driving the bandwidth of LTL and LTC polarization conversions. Simulation results demonstrate that the suggested converter is capable to convert the linearly polarized wave to its cross counterpart over $8.74-13.71 \text{GHz}$ and 22.75-23.58 GHz. Moreover, this polarizer is proven to alter linearly polarized wave into the nearly perfect circularly polarized wave over the frequency range of $7.47-8.52 \text{GHz}$, $\mathbf{1 4 . 3 7 - 2 2 . 4 2 ~ G H z}$, and $\mathbf{2 3 . 6 8 - 2 4 . 7 1 ~ G H z}$. Favorably, it offers distinct type of circular polarization (both left and right hand) manipulation in the different bands which is crucial in reducing the interference in up-link and downlink frequencies. Many satellite and defence applications in the X -, Ku -, and K- bands are anticipated for this suggested polarizer because of its compact design, low profile, low cost, ease of fabrication, and multifunctional polarization transformation characteristics.
