Application of dynamic mechanical analysis to study the viscoelastic properties of deciduous wood species using

This paper presents the results of experimental studies using the dynamic mechanical analysis method of elastic (storage) moduli E’, dispersion (loss) modulus E’’ and mechanical loss coefficient tgδ of wood of such common deciduous tree species Tilia cordata and Betula pendula. For both species, a comparative characteristic of static and dynamic viscoelastic-plastic properties is given depending on the frequency and amplitude of probing harmonic oscillations. The contribution of different frequencies and amplitudes of harmonic oscillations to the formation of the total viscoelastic-plastic response of linden and birch wood is determined. A comparative assessment of the effect of additional low-amplitude oscillating load on the dynamic parameters of each type of wood under study is given. The fundamental possibility of using the parameters of dynamic viscoelastic properties for identifying deciduous wood species is shown.
