Abstract

Chirality-dependent photocatalysis is an emerging domain\nthat leverages\nunique chiral light–matter interactions for enabling asymmetric\ncatalysis driven by spin polarization induced by circularly polarized\nlight selection. Herein, we synthesize chiral inorganic polar BaTiO3/BaCO3 nanohybrids for asymmetric photocatalysis\nvia a hydrothermal method employing chiral glucose as a structural\ninducer. When excited by opposite circularly polarized light, the\nsame material exhibits significant asymmetric catalysis, while enantiomers\npresent an opposite polarization preference. More importantly, the\npreferred circularly polarized light undergoes reversal with reversal\nof the CD signal. Systematic experimental results demonstrate that\nmore photogenerated carriers are generated in chiral semiconductors\nunder suitable circularly polarized light irradiation, including more\nspin-polarized electrons, which inhibits the recombination of electron–hole\npairs and promotes the activation of oxygen molecules into reactive\noxygen species, thus inducing this asymmetric photocatalytic feature.\nThis study provides valuable insights for the development of highly\nefficient polarization-sensitive chiral perovskite nanostructures\nas promising candidates for next-generation, multifunctional chiral\ndevice applications.
