Nanoporous\nStructure Fabrication on Glass Surfaces\nfor Enhanced Glass Adhesion Using Hydrogen Fluoride Gas
The\nbonding between glass and other materials plays a crucial role\nwhen glass is used in industrial products. In this study, we propose\na new approach to enhance the bonding strength of glass with other\nmaterials by fabricating nanoscale porous structures on glass surfaces\nvia a chemical reaction with hydrogen fluoride gas. Herein, we present\na methodology for controlling the thickness of the porous structure,\nclarify the relationship between the thickness and adhesion strength,\ninvestigate the shape of the formed porous structure, and propose\na method to control its shape. Our findings reveal that the fabricated\nporous structure greatly improves the adhesion strength of the adhesive\nowing to the microscopic anchoring effect induced by the penetration\nof the adhesive into the porous structure. This approach is expected\nto be applied to architectural and automobile window glasses, solar\npanels, sensor cover glasses of autonomous vehicles, display devices\n(including smartphones), and wearable devices.
