Hybrid Amorphous\nCu(OH)2/ZIF-67 as Oxygen\nEvolution Reaction Electrocatalysts for Anion-Exchange Membrane Water\nElectrolyzers

The anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEM electrolyzer)\nis an advanced technology for the sustainable production of green\nhydrogen. However, its commercialization has been hindered by its\nrelatively low performance, which necessitates the use of platinum\ngroup metal (PGM)-based electrocatalysts. Herein, we address this\nchallenge by developing a composite material consisting of non-PGM-based\namorphous Cu(OH)2 and ZIF-67. The abundant defects in amorphous\nCu(OH)2 and the modification of the electronic structure,\ninduced by the strong interaction between ZIF-67 and Cu(OH)2, significantly enhance the catalytic performance of the oxygen evolution\nreaction (OER). The AEM electrolyzer equipped with Cu(OH)2@ZIF-100 demonstrates a higher performance (1.75 Vcell at 1.0 A/cm2) compared to those using RuO2 (1.784 Vcell at 1.0 A/cm2) by reducing mass\ntransport losses within the AEM electrolyzer.
