A Maior Flor do Mundo takes us through a challenging labyrinth, questioning from the beginning the boundaries of children’s literature. The tale interweaves various rhetoricalstylistic devices such as praeteritio, enargeia, and many other illustrative elements that expand symbolism, promoting broaden and polysemic readings. The allegorical universe, full of metaphors and references, involves the reader in a hermeneutic exercise of poiesis. The vital elements of water, earth, flowers, dreams, sleep and travel consubstantiate the Sisyphean demand to overcome all obstacles with herculean (or Icarus) force. The anonymous boy hero, the synecdoche of everyone, in the backlight of the speculum principis, amplifies the need to return to the essential in our discoveries and conquests. This article presents a reading of the work, recognizing these voices and echoes of the ancient heritage – such as the progymnasmata techniques –proving the endurance of these legacies in our Western culture.
