Molecular Profiling\nof Rice Straw Degradability Discrepancy\nin Stropharia rugosoannulata Core Germplasm

The rice-S. rugosoannulata pattern\nis a rapidly growing agricultural practice for straw disposal and\nmushroom production in China. However, different S.\nrugosoannulata strains show a large variation in rice\nstraw degradability. Here, we constructed a core collection of S. rugosoannulata containing 14 strains with rich\ngenetic diversity. The molecular profiling of the lignocellulose degradability\ndiscrepancy of S. rugosoannulata strains\nwas then explored using enzyme activity assays and transcriptome analysis.\nThe results indicated that mycelial growth rate, lignocellulolytic\nenzyme activities, and rice straw degradability differed widely among\nthe S. rugosoannulata core strains.\nThe genes encoding lignin modifying and degrading auxiliary enzymes,\noxidases, glycoside hydrolases, and detoxification proteins were differentially\nexpressed between two representative S. rugosoannulata strains, resulting in differences in their lignocellulolytic enzyme\nactivities and further causing differences in lignocellulose degradability.\nThis study is useful to improve the production efficiency of S. rugosoannulata and promote the recycling of rice\nstraw.

Abstract

The rice-S. rugosoannulata pattern\nis a rapidly growing agricultural practice for straw disposal and\nmushroom production in China.
