Narrow absorption lines from intervening material in supernovae: galaxy properties and environments
Narrow absorption features in the spectra of nearby supernovae (SNe) provide a powerful diagnostic tool for studying slow-moving material along the line of sight. These features are extensively used to infer dust extinction within host galaxies and detect circumstellar material originating from the progenitor star near the explosion site. In this talk, I will discuss how the strength of narrow Na I D interstellar absorption lines observed in low-resolution spectra of various SN types can be affected by systematic biases. Additionally, I will demonstrate how our analysis reproduces the known correlations between the interstellar medium and host galaxy properties and reveal the distribution of Na I D lines across different SN types and environments.
