Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's innovative approach to water management

Abstract This paper focuses on the Dr. Ambedkar’s innovative approach to the water management. The article brings out his views on water as fundamental right of the citizen. It has explored the importance of water as fundamental right in the Indian context where marginalized section accounts significant part of the population. Development of agriculture sector has remained always a centered problem for the nation. Dr. Ambedkar focused on the agriculture sector through his views of the water management policy for agriculture sector, as current Indian context agriculture sector of the country suffering through the various issues i.e. regional inequality, farmer’s suicide etc. Ambedkar believed on equitable distribution of water is essential to ensure equal development of all sections of the society. Secondary sources such as books, research journals, magazines, newspapers are extensively studied and analyzed to meet the study objectives. This paper concludes that Dr Ambedkar’s thought on water is highly significant in India’s economical and social development
