Analysis of Transmission Line Arrangement Efficiency Based on Electric Field Calculation of Conductors Using Computational Simulations

High Surge Impedance Loading (HSIL) lines are transmission lines with modified arrangements designed to maximize power transmission capacity. This study aims to analyze five distinct conductor configurations commonly used in 500 kV HSIL lines in Brazil and assess their efficiency based on electric field distribution. Using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations performed in COMSOL Multiphysics®, the electric field intensities on the sub-conductors of each arrangement were calculated and compared. The results highlight the influence of spatial arrangement on electric field equalization and suggest the optimal geometry for minimizing field intensity and energy losses. The findings reinforce the importance of computational simulations in supporting the design and evaluation of high-performance transmission lines.
