Promoting Public Engagement in Science-Formats in the Context of Linguistic Creativity

Linguistic Creativity is an everyday experienced phenomenon, whether through unintentionally funny slips of the tongue or creative new functional word creations. In CRC 1646, 16 subprojects research Linguistic Creativity in 3 areas. In our public outreach endeavor, we consider every speaker as an expert with a sense of creative potential inherent in language and implicit & explicit knowledge of creative language use. We therefore implement “outreach” citizen participation activities to involve the public in different stages of scientific research. Our project goals consist of (1) Establish Infrastructure: Facilitate between researchers and citizens, develop networks with local institutions & citizens, create a format toolbox for researchers to use; (2)Research on Evaluation: Systematically plan & evaluate formats and activities on suitability for research topics & questions and target groups; (3)Take it Outside the University: Develop and test formats in everyday public places outside academia.
