Competenza epistemica: imparare a conoscere in ottica inclusiva

The paper is a theoretical reflection on the possible contribution of standpoint epistemology (Harding, 1986) and virtue epistemology (Sosa, 1980) for the creation of the concept of epistemic competence in education. Following a socio-constructivist approach, the notion of metacognition, already included in the LifeComp 2020 framework as a subsection of the transversal competence “learning to learn” is expanded to explore possible educational paths to address contemporary social and cultural needs, specifically those suggested by gender theory. Epistemic competence results as a new transversal competence to be understood as “learning to know”, thus, widening the scope of the concept of competence due to its capacity to include ethical and pluralistic virtues for democracy.
