Barolineocerus spinosus While Freytag 2008

Barolineocerus spinosus Freytag, 2008 (Figs. 4J–L, 17A–N) Barolineocerus spinosus Freytag, 2008: 55, figures 23–25. Type locality: Amacayacu National Park, Matamata Station, Amazonas, Colombia. Diagnosis (based on material collected in Brazil). Pronotal macula almost extends to hind margin of pronotum (Fig. 4J). Claval macula extends to scutellum apex (Fig. 4J). Abdominal sternite II apodeme extending almost to posterior margin of sternite III (Fig. 17B). Pygofer posterior margin with short ventral process; with short median process, not forming elongate process (Figs. 17C–D). Valve anterior and posterior margins sinuous (Fig. 17E). Subgenital plate with dorsal spine-like preapical process posteriorly projected; apex pointed (Figs. 17F–H). Aedeagus without dorsal median process; without dorsal subapical ridge; with ventral transverse ridge at apical fifth (Figs. 17L–N). Anal tube, laterobasal process with base sinuous at anterior margin, apex distinctly pointed (Figs. 17C, E). Measurements (mm). Males (n= 3), total length (to apex of forewing): 4.94–5.17; median length of crown: 0.22–0.29; length of crown close to eyes: 0.18–0.26; width of head: 1.78–1.88; width of crown between eyes: 1.06–1.18; length of pronotum: 0.48–0.54; length of scutellum: 0.96–1.19; width of pronotum: 1.68–1.81; width of scutellum: 1.21–1.42; length of face: 1.12–1.17; width of face between eyes: 1.01–1.11; distance between ocelli: 0.33–0.36; ocellocular distance: 0.28–0.35; length of clypeus: 0.39–0.42; basal width of clypeus: 0.25–0.27; apical width of clypeus: 0.33–0.37; length of forewing: 4.42–4.44. Distribution. Brazil (Acre, Amazonas); Colombia (Amazonas). Additional material. Freytag (2008) provided illustrations of the male genital capsule (lateral view), subgenital plate (ventral view), connective, style and aedeagus (ventral view) of B. spinosus While Freytag (2008) states that ventral spines are present near the apex of the aedeagal shaft, in the studied Brazilian material, this projection is a transverse ridge rather than a spine-like process (Figs. 17L–N). In some specimens, the apical yellow portion of the scutellum is discontinuous from the remaining portions of the posterolateral macula (as in Fig. 4J). Specimens vary in the hind tibia AD row with 6–7 cucullate setae and PD row with 16–19 cucullate setae. Barolineocerus spinosus is most similar to B. apiculus and B. elongatus as noted in the Remarks on B. apiculus. However, it can be distinguished from these species by the apodeme of abdominal sternite II not reaching the posterior margin of sternite III (Fig. 17B), pygofer posterior margin with median process projected as far as ventral one (Fig. 17D), and a preapical spine-like process on the dorsal margin of the subgenital plate (Figs. 17F–G).
