Advances in Biomass Energy Technology: The Future of Sustainable Development
Abstract: Chitosan, a naturally occurring biopolymer derived from chitin, demonstrates exceptional flocculating properties due to its high molecular weight and the presence of amino groups, which enable effective coagulation and aggregation of suspended particles in water. This makes chitosan a promising agent for the removal of various contaminants, including organic matter, suspended solids, heavy metals, and nutrients in waste water. Moreover, chitosan's biodegradability, low toxicity, and abundance make it a more sustainable alternative to synthetic flocculants, which can pose environmental risks. This green approach not only offers a potential solution for cleaning contaminated river water but also tackles the issue of waste minimization and environmental sustainability. in the present study, the potential of chitosan as a coagulant for the treatment of Ulhas river located in Kalyan was evaluated. The Efficiency of extracted chitosan was assessed by calculating various parameters, including pH, turbidity, conductivity, TDS. The experimental outcomes showed that chitosan was effective in eliminating pollutants from wastewater
