LOCUL ȘI ROLUL CĂMINELOR CULTURALE ÎN ROMÂNIA INTERBELICĂ (EXEMPLUL BASARABIEI)
After the First World War in Europe, multinational empires fell apart and nationalstates emerged on their ruins. Following the union of the Romanian provinces, which were under foreign rule, in 1918 Romania became whole, its borders being recognized by the international community. Among many other problems, which appeared before the country’s leadership, there was alsothe problem of the national uniformity of the population under foreign yoke (of the Bessarabians, forexample, who were under Russian domination for 106 years). In addition to appropriating land tothe peasants, who constituted over 80 percent of the country’s population, offering various modernservices, the leadership from Bucharest raised the issue of raising the level of culture of the people, including those from Bessarabia. This was done on the basis of the Cultural Homes, founded in the20-30s of the last century. The given study refers to the activities carried out by the activists of theCultural Homes in Bessarabia.Key words: Romania, Bessarabia, Cultural homes, national state.
