Information Overload and Management Information Systems: Influencing Factors and Mitigation Actions
Information plays a crucial role in business decision-making, however, the excessive volume of data can compromise this process. This study seeks to identify actions to mitigate the impacts of information overload on Management Information Systems (MIS). The research, with a qualitative and exploratory-descriptive approach, employs Systematic Literature Review and Content Analysis. Four factors were identified that influence this overload: personal/cognitive, structural, technological, and knowledge area. To mitigate its effects, measures such as task adequacy, work group autonomy, strategic information disposal, informational policies, organizational redesign, and staff training are proposed. These findings broaden the understanding of the topic and offer support for further research, which should deepen the investigation of the identified factors and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed actions through empirical studies in different organizational contexts.
