CONTEMPORARY OUTCOMES AND COMPLICATION MANAGEMENT IN BARIATRIC SURGERY: A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS
Background: Bariatric surgery has evolved into a cornerstone treatment for severe obesity and metabolic disorders, with continuously improving outcomes and safety profiles. Contemporary data from global registries demonstrate significant advances in surgical techniques and perioperative management. Objective: This comprehensive review examines current outcomes, complication patterns, and management strategies in bariatric surgery, incorporating data from international registries and recent clinical studies to provide evidence-based recommendations for optimal patient care. Methods: A systematic analysis of contemporary literature was conducted, focusing on outcome measures, complication rates, and long-term effectiveness of various bariatric procedures. Data from the IFSO global registry and recent multicenter studies were analyzed. Results: Modern bariatric surgery demonstrates excellent safety profiles with mortality rates below 0.1% for most procedures. Long-term weight loss maintenance and resolution of comorbidities remain superior to non-surgical interventions, with sleeve gastrectomy emerging as the most commonly performed procedure globally. Conclusions: Contemporary bariatric surgery offers excellent outcomes with acceptable complication rates. Proper patient selection, standardized surgical techniques, and comprehensive perioperative care are essential for optimizing results and minimizing adverse events.
