Review on the Literature Available on Sustainable Buildings

From late 20th century, the development in construction field has seen a substantial change in itself.Since the demand of housing is ever increasing with increase in population, this need has to be coped upwith all the resources available. However, the energy sources available to the mankind are limited anddepleting rapidly. This in term will affect the situation enormously since the demand cannot be copiedup with available resources. And this will result in depletion of resources at a great extent creating majorproblems. To tackle this situation, various options are available. A self-sustainable building iseconomically independent and equipped to provide for its own needs. It produces energy directly on siteand has little or no adverse effects on the environment. self-sustaining building is a structure designedto operate independently with minimal reliance on external utilities, reducing environmental impact andoptimizing resource use. These buildings are constructed to be energy-efficient, resource-conscious, andenvironmentally integrated, aiming for long-term sustainability. These buildings have their ownresources, including energy, sewage system, food, water, heating, cooling, and drainage, and aredesigned to significantly reduce waste and minimize environmental impacts .They are residencesdesigned to be independent from public utilities and services. These buildings are the epitome ofsustainability, leveraging renewable energy sources and other ecofriendly technologies. The conceptrevolves around creating a closed-loop system where energy, water, and materials are managed withinthe building itself. This aligns with sustainability principles by reducing environmental impact andpromoting efficient resource use.
