Modular Linear Electric Motor with Active 3-Phase Rotor and Stator: Scalable, Magnet-Free Design for EVs, Aircraft, and Marine Propulsion

๐Ÿ”น Title: Modular Linear Electric Motor with Active 3-Phase Rotor and Stator: Scalable, Magnet-Free Design for EVs, Aircraft, and Marine Propulsion ๐Ÿ”น Author: Muhammad Usman MalikORCID ID: 0009-0004-3269-2918 ๐Ÿ”น Abstract: This publication introduces a new class of magnet-free, fully electromagnetic multi-motor linear drive systems, featuring active 3-phase windings on both stator and rotor components. Built on a shared shaft architecture, the design is compact, modular, and highly scalable. It eliminates the use of permanent magnets, reducing environmental costs and enabling local, cost-effective manufacturing. Designed with a low cross-section, this system is ideally suited for electric vehicles (especially underfloor mounting), aircraft requiring thin propulsion systems, modular marine engines, and smart industrial motion systems. Each motor stage can be independently controlled through AI-based voltage, current, and frequency modulation, enabling dynamic torque and efficiency tuning across speed ranges. ๐Ÿ”น Technical Highlights: Active 3-phase windings on both stator and rotor Three modular motor units mounted on a single common shaft Linear, low-height profile ideal for floor-mounted or embedded systems Fully compatible with AI/ML-based control systems Designed for easy servicing and mass manufacturing Rare-earth free: no permanent magnets required ๐Ÿ”น Why Not One Long Motor?
